Session 23 - Giving, Witnessing, and Fellowship

Session 23 - Giving, Witnessing, and Fellowship

This session concludes the topic of the responsibilities of sonship by addressing God’s will for us to give, witness and fellowship with other believers. God has always desired that men give, and He looks at the heart of the giver.  Witnessing simply involves telling others about Christ, and He has commanded us to preach to “all creation.”  Fellowship is critical to the church.  We are to encourage our brothers and sisters, spurring one another to do good deeds.  Verses: Gen. 4:3-5; 14:17-20; Heb. 7:4; 10:22-25; Lev. 27:30-33; Mal. 3:8-12; 1 Cor. 9:7-14; 12:12-27; 2 Cor. 5:17-20; 9:6; Mark 12:41-44; 16:15; Rom. 10:9-15; Acts 1:8-9  Teacher: John Schoenheit, Sue Carlson  ...

Session 22 - The Power of Prayer

Continuing the theme of the responsibilities that come with sonship, this session focuses on prayer and its incredible power. Session 21 - Developing the Character of Christ

Session 21 - Developing the Character of Christ

Continuing the theme of responsibilities of being God’s sons, this session focuses on being like Christ in our behaviors.  Known as “fruit of the spirit,” the Epistle to the Galatians contains a list of nine qualities that we will exhibit as we become more Christlike.  We cannot erase our sin nature; however, we can choose to behave in a manner that displays our Christlike nature.  Verses: Gal. 5:19-24; 6:1; Matt. 7:21; 11:29-30; Exod. 23:4-5; Luke 6:35, 45; 10:27; 1 Cor. 9:24-27; 13:4-8; Acts 5:41; 1 Thess. 5:16; Heb. 12:2; Ps. 23:5; Phil. 4:7; 2 Cor. 3:11; Isa. 9:6; Col. 1:11; 2 Tim. 3:10; Rom. 2:4; 15:14; Eph. 4:31-32; Num. 12:3  Teacher: John Schoenheit, Sue Carlson  ...

Session 20 - Sonship – Blessings and Responsibilities

Session 20 - Sonship – Blessings and Responsibilities

As children of God, we receive countless blessings. This session enumerates the key blessings we have as Christians, among which are righteousness, justification, and sanctification. It addresses the question, “Since we know we can’t lose our salvation, why not continue sinning?” We learn that obedience amplifies our blessings, and that our behavior speaks volumes to those around us, either drawing others toward God or away from Him.  Verses: 2 Cor. 1:1; 5:21; 10:3-5; Rom. 2:24; 3:20-26; 7:15-17; 12:1-2; 1 Cor. 1:2; Col. 1:2; Phil. 2:12; Heb. 11:24-25; Ps. 119:165; Eph. 2:1-3; 5:1-5: Gal. 5:16  Teacher: John Schoenheit, Sue Carlson  ...

Session 19 - Hope – Jobs and Judgments

Session 19 - Hope – Jobs and Judgments

This session provides descriptions of what paradise will look like and explains how we will spend eternity. God designed us to work, and various Old Testament scriptures detail our future jobs. The session explains that we will be judged for how we have lived our lives, and that judgment involves rewards. God has provided us an avenue for asking for and receiving forgiveness of our sins so that we have the best possible outcome at the judgment.   Verses: Gen. 2:15; Isa. 32:1; Amos 9:13-14; Ezek. 39:14-15; 44:10-16; 47:10; Jer. 17:10; 31:12; Eph. 2:10; Matt. 16:27; 25:14-18, 26; 2 Cor. 5:9-11; Col. 3:23-25; 1 Thess. 4:3-6; 2 Tim. 2:11-13; 1 John 1:9; 2:28; Luke 9:26  Teacher: John Schoenheit; Sue Carlson  ...

Session 18 - Hope – the Anchor of the Soul

Session 18 - Hope – the Anchor of the Soul

This session addresses the error of the traditional Christian belief that when we die, we go immediately to heaven. God’s word provides an abundance of evidence that paradise will not be in heaven, but rather will be on this earth. For example, Jesus stated, “The meek will inherit the earth.” Multiple scripture references show clearly what Christians will inherit and exactly how glorious it will be.  Verses: Heb. 2:14; 6:19; Matt. 5:5; 26:29; Ps. 37:9-11, 28-29; Ezek. 37:1-14; Gen. 1:30; 13:14-17; Acts 7:5; Rev. 19:11-15; 21:4: Luke 23:43; 1 Thess. 4:17; 1 Cor. 6:2; 13:11-12; Jer. 23:5-6; 31:33-34; Mic. 4:3-4; Isa. 11:6-9; 25:6; 32:15-18; 33:24; 35:1-7, 10; Phil. 3:20-21; Amos 9:13  Teacher: John Schoenheit, Sue Carlson  ...
